FILMS FROM COMICS - The Mask (1994)

The Obscure Comic Book Film Source Project.

A multi-blog look at lists of "Movies You Didn't Know Were Based On Comics" to see how true they really are.

The Mask (1994) is a live action about Stanley Ipkiss, a man who finds a mask that gives him powers.  It is based on the comic book character of the same name.

The Mask is a live action cartoon:  The violence and anger of the comic book are gone or muted.  This Stanley Ipkiss is just as downtrodden - in many of the same ways - but his revenge is not murderous.  The use of the powers is even more goofy and playful than even the post Stanley mini-series.

The film is based around empty catch-phrases, and Jim Carrey's computer enhanced mugging at the camera.
